FDA Lowers BMI Requirements for the LAP-BAND
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved lower Body Mass Index (BMI) requirements for the LAP-BAND® System Surgery recently. Patients with a BMI of 30 or more, and one co-morbid condition such as diabetes or hypertension, can now have access to the LAP-BAND® System. The FDA concluded in a Dec. 3, 2010 report that the benefits of extending the use of the LAP-BAND® System to healthier patients outweighs the risks.
